Release-candidate season opens the autumn upgrade watch
Postgres 19's last beta, kernel point releases, LTS refreshes. September is when the year's infrastructure actually arrives.
The infrastructure year has two real seasons, and the second one is opening. PostgreSQL 19 shipped its third beta in mid-August, the last stop before release candidates on the project's traditional path to an autumn GA. The Linux 7.x line that shipped in April is now the settling default across the LTS distributions that adopted it. And the managed platforms are staging their own autumn refreshes on top of both, per the steady drumbeat in provider release notes.
The seasonal observation, offered once a year: almost nothing that matters in infrastructure ships in a keynote. It ships in September and October, in release candidates and LTS point releases, documented in changelogs written by tired maintainers, and it runs under everything for the following half decade.
The builder's read: the upgrade planning you do in the next three weeks is the cheapest it will be all year. The beta homework was the easy version; RC season is the last call before the surprises cost production time.
