On the April 8, 2009 edition of Hardball, Christopher Hitchens and Ken Blackwell discuss the state of Christianity, faith and religion in the U.S. The crown-jewel among the gems with which Hitchens was faced tonight:
It’s flat out nonsense to suggest that this country was built on anything other than Judeo-Christian principles and precepts.
Ken Blackwell is the epitome of all the salepeople for, using Mr. Hitchens’ brilliant term, ‘the parties of god’: smug, happily ignorant, and willing to ‘create’ evidence when necessary to achieve any gains. It’s pathetic and shameful to watch.
And once again they latch onto the few references in the official documents (which we allegedly tolerate out of ‘tradition’), as support for the claim it’s a “christian nation”.
Every time this comes up, everyone cries that it’s just tradition – and then when it comes down to the wire, they pull it out again.
We need – NEED – to remove the references to theism in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, pledges, etc.
